Love it or hate it, but the concept of “Situational Awareness” pops up in almost any discussion of personal safety. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of confusion about what the fundamental concepts of situational awareness actually are. How are you supposed to be aware of your situation? What are you trying to be aware of? What’s the point?
To help clarify this issue, here’s my unconventional take on the subject. Just because the topic is serious doesn’t mean the presentation has to take itself seriously, so it’s a fast-paced, and (hopefully) entertaining introduction to some very important ideas.
